Betty D. Jenkins

Acrylics/Folk Art

Betty D. Jenkins was born in Houston, Texas where she graduated from Wheatley High School. Her formal education includes a B.S. in chemistry from Tuskegee University, and additional graduate level studies in biochemistry at Indiana University.

Ms. Jenkins considers herself a folk-art painter who has been painting since 1999. She uses acrylics, simple shapes, and bold colors in her work. She views her art as an extension of herself: of her thoughts, emotions, and observations. Her art is also a celebration of her African-American heritage.

Her work has been exhibited in both juried and invitational shows, including those sponsored by Art For Community Expression of Columbus, Ohio; The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo, Ohio; The Lubbock Art Association; Texas Tech University Library; and Lubbock Arts Festivals of 2005, 2006, 2007. Ms Jenkins had solo exhibitions in February of 2004 at the Lubbock Regional Arts Center and in February of 2007 at the Lubbock Municipal Garden and Arts Center.
