Just like most artists, I've been drawing and creating artwork since I was very young. It wasn't until I attended Pittsburg State University in Kansas that I discovered printmaking. I loved it so much that I also took commercial screen printing classes in order to improve my technique and be as knowledgeable with my materials as possible. I have a masters degree in art with an emphasis on printmaking and photography.
As a printmaker, I like to explore each subject in a variety of print styles until I feel I've exhausted my creative options. The main printmaking methods I prefer are serigraphy, relief prints, monotypes and dry point. Each type of printmaking will lend a different look and feel based on the media, much the way a watercolor will look different than an oil painting or a charcoal drawing. The various printmaking methods allow me to depict the same subject in many ways while still letting my style show through.
Printmaking is basically a puzzle to be solved creatively. Planning things out and making the edition come out right makes the process really interesting. Every type of print that I create is a hand pulled original work of fine art.
